Colors and Cabinet Day

Color and Cabinet Selection Day

oYeah! It’s time to pick out interior and exterior colors for our new home. Here we are on Friday, March 29, 2019 at Oliver Homes meeting with Sharon our Color Coordinator at 9:00 am. We were so excited to get here we woke up early, got ready, and hung out at Dunkin Donuts down the street lol!!!

What did I learn today?

  1. Do your homework first. Research what you like and don’t like?
  2. Talk to your spouse extensively prior to today?!?!
  3. Trust yourself that what you selected will all come together and look beautiful.

We hit the ground running and picked out the color of our roof, shingles, and shakes. What exactly are shakes? I had no clue. A shake is a type of shingle but it looks different. Traditionally the word “shake” refers to the board to which the shingle is nailed, not the shingle. Still confused … yea me too!

We also picked out the colors for the deck, railing, garage door, and flooring. This was done in 2 ½ hours and it made me hungry for food. My sugar level tanked and we either had to brake for lunch or make ridiculous color selection.

We picked the following colors

  • Shingles … Granite Gray
  • Shakes … Charcoal Gray
  • Roof … Rustic Virginia Slate
  • Deck …. Evergreen Cape Code Gray
  • Railing … White
  • Garage Door … Gray
  • Front accent stone … York Limestone
  • Flooring …Lux Plax Sweet Carmel hardwood
  • Maple Cabinetry throughout house … Umber

Luckily there was an Amish Market down the street so we went there for lunch. We chowed down on some rotisserie chicken and rib meals, yummy!!! Ok now I felt better so back we went for the second part of the day.

We continued with Sharon for about another 1 ½ hours picking out light fixtures. This part of the day flew by but we weren’t done yet.

Once we were done with Sharon, we met with Carl the Sales Manager. He’s responsible for making sure everything comes together, he’s really more of a Project Manager. But whatever, it’s just a title…as long as my home gets built, I don’t care what your title is😊😊

What’s left for us to pick out

  • Range,  Refrigerator, Dishwasher, Microwave, Washer, Dryer
  • Kitchen Farmhouse sink
  • Ceiling Fans for the Great Room, Sun Room, and Owners Room

Something new that I learned today is that there is politically correctness even among Home Builders and Realtors. The words Master Bedroom and Handicap anything are not allowed be used. They have to say Owners Bedroom and Right Height anything. Crazy right, I had no idea!!

That’s all for now folks, don’t forget to subscribe to our blog.
